Man locks himself up in Westville prison 'hostage' drama
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Westville Prison officials and police are currently negotiating with a manager who has locked himself in the arsenal of the facility's Medium A section.
An initial tip-off made to Newswatch suggested there was an ongoing hostage situation at the prison.
However, KZN Correctional Services spokesperson Thulani Mdluli says this is not the case. He says no one is being held against their will.
"At the moment, we are dealing with the situation. We have called the police so that they can perhaps talk to him as to what is happening because we don't have any comments as to clarify why he is locking himself up, what propelled him to lock himself up.
"As the day goes by we hope he will be out and can tell us more," he said.
