Little change in KZN dam levels after recent rains
Umgeni Water says although there has been some decent rain in parts of KwaZulu-Natal this week, it was still not enough to improve the water shortage situation.
There were particularly heavy downpours in the southern parts of KZN on Wednesday night.
The rain led to flash flooding in many parts of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, keeping emergency services busy throughout the night.
The utility's Shami Harichunder says there has only been a 3% increase in dam water levels this week.
He says three to four days' worth of good rain is needed for the dams to fill up.
"Concern still remains with Midmar Dam which is 46% and Albert Falls which is at about 36%. We still have a very difficult situation to deal with. Unfortunately, the amount of rainfall received does not change the situation," he said.
The South African Weather Service has forecast a 60 percent chance of rain tomorrow and Sunday across the province.
