Legal action promised against those implicated in the so-called ‘jobs for cash’ scandal

The department released its 285 page report into the scandal on Friday night. The ministerial task team, established by Minister Angie Motshekga, found 38 cases requiring further investigation or pointed directly to wrongdoing when it came to the appointment of teacher and principal posts. 

KZN was among the provinces implicated. Spokesperson Elijah Mahlanga says Education officials worked together with the Department of Justice.

"Some members of certain unions were involved in influencing the appointment of teachers and some were involved in illegal activities," he said. 

"The task team investigated a number of cases and found that in 38 cases there are some people who did illegal things which have warranted the minister to extend the investigations as far as the forensic team is concerned," Mahlangu.
