Speaking on protests in Umlazi, Marianhill and Tongaat, spokesperson Thulani Zwane said residents disrupted traffic by blocking off certain roads with burning tyres and rocks.

Zwane says from what they have gathered, the protests are over service delivery issues and unhappiness over the councillors.

"On their arrival they noticed that a number of people have been blocking the roads as well at Umlazi area this morning as well as they still complain that the roads have been blocked by the protestors.

"All these protests are being monitored by the police and up to now there are no arrests that have been made and there are no injuries or damages reported," he said.

East Coast Radio jock, Zeal Dladla is among those who were affected by the demonstration in Umlazi's E Section.

"As you enter E Section there were bottles and stones - big rocks actually - on the road then there were tyres burning ahead. I saw cars turning back telling me to go back.

"I just drove a little bit further and saw the tyres burning, a crowd of about 100 people are out there marching and they are just blocking the roads. They actually told me as well that they are going to block it even further all the way to A Section right at the beginning of the area.
