KZN Cosatu raises concern over ANC's weakening popularity

Cosatu in KZN says its Provincial Executive Council is concerned that while the ANC has generally done well in past elections, its performance has taken a knock in the last municipal elections.

Speaking at media briefing at the Oceanic Hotel and Conference Centre in Durban,  after a two day PEC meeting, the organisation said the ANC's weak performance was as a result of the anger of its voters. Provincial Secretary, Edwin Mkhize, says the voters are angry after observing  the naked manipulation of democratic processes and vulgarisation of the popular mandate.

"The core message of the electorate is quite clear: Do not take us for granted, do not be arrogant to us, do not marginalize us while being preoccupied with your own internal battles, your list process and your personalities," he said.

Cosatu also says it is not surprised that the Economic Freedom Fighters has decided to vote with the DA in Johannesburg.

Mkhize said  they are not surprised, but are disappointed with the EFF.

"We know that Herman Mashaba and his DA are always representing the interest of the capitalist," he said.

"As Cosatu we have been in court defending workers against the very same man which the EFF has put in the seniour office in Johannesburg. We are not surprised because that is the real EFF that we saw," Mkhize said.
