Farmer in child baboon-attack case pleads innocence

The farmer accused of letting baboons loose on a farm near Richmond - in the Midlands says his life's been turned upside-down since one of the animals attacked 2 children there on Friday.

David Aadnesgaard says he has since hired a guard to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Six-year-old Seluleko Xaba and his 10-year-old cousin were playing last week when they were mauled by the baboon.

They've been receiving treatment at the Edendale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

The farmer says the baboons were placed on the farm by a Durban-based animal rehabilitation centre in 2012. He says this is the first incident in the 4 years that an animal has attacked a person.
