'Dark weekend' for KZN after multiple deaths
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu has described the last two days as a "bad and black" weekend for the province.
He's been reacting to two separate massacres in KwaCeza in northern KZN and at KwaMashu Hostel in Durban as well as two road accidents in which at total 21 people were killed.
Six family members, including a three and five-year-old children were shot, hacked and burned to death at their homestead in Mpambulekweni in what's believed to have been a family feud.
Police have already made five arrests but are looking for more suspects.
In the KwaMashu killings, four people were shot execution style yesterday.
Mchunu says police are working around the clock to find the killers.
"In many instances in KwaMashu there have been massacres that have been political in nature but there has also been massacres that have proved to politically inspired.
"In some instances, we have traced the feuds to family feuds in the rural areas. In this instance, we are still not sure," he said.
Eleven other people died when the minibus taxis they were in were involved in accidents on the between Kraanskop and Nkandla and Pietermaritzburg yesterday and this morning.
