Crisis at Jozini and Nquthu municipalities impacting on services: COGTA
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The uMkhanyakude and uMzinyathi District Municipalities have been unable to hold their first council meetings due to the deadlock.
In Jozini, there was no clear winner with the ANC winning 19 seats, the IFP, 18, the DA, 1, EFF, 1 and an Independent, 1.
Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube says they tried to facilitate the resolution of the stalemate during a meeting last week.
"There are two extreme views from political parties and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any conversions of minds among the political parties to understand even at that leadership level that we need to be looking at the bigger picture than looking at who gets selected into which office," she said.
Dube-Ncube says they're optimistic of a positive outcome in Nquthu which is holding a sitting again today.
"In previous meetings there has been a confusion arising from the poor communication on the part of the presiding officer and one of the parties also approached the court to get the court's decision which was in favour of that political party around the convening of the meeting," she said.
