Court issues warrant of arrest for rape-accused eShowe teacher
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The start of the trial of a KwaZibonele school teacher charged with the alleged rape and molestation of a 12-year-old Grade 7 pupil has been delayed as he is apparently sick.
When the girl’s mother went to report the rape at the school after finding out, 24 more victims are said to have come forward, but their parents haven't laid charges.
The 12-year-old's mother broke down in tears as soon as she got outside court after the trial was postponed to July 20.
The accused's defence told the court that the accused teacher was ill and wouldn't be coming to court.
The Magistrate then issued a warrant of arrest for the accused and provisionally cancelled his bail until July 20 when he's expected back in court.
The child's relative, who can't be named to protect her identity, says the accused shouldn't have been granted bail as there's no guarantee he'll pitch at court.
