BREAKING: Senzo Mchunu steps down as KZN Premier
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Senzo Mchunu has reportedly resigned as KZN Premier.
While the KZN Legislature says it hasn't received any resignation from the KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu has confirmed to Newswatch that he will be leaving the post.
"It has been confirmed but it's not something that I'd like to talk about more," he said.
Reports of Mchunu's allegedly forced resignation surfaced on Friday evening with the Premier reportedly given until today to step down.
The ANC however remained mum on the issue throughout the weekend, refusing to confirm or deny the allegations.
Speculation was rife yesterday when Mchunu did not attend a National Prayer Day event in Durban, attended by President Jacob Zuma.
Meanwhile, political analyst Thabani Khumalo feels developments within the KZN ANC paint a picture of a party is disarray with growing international divisions.
"Right now, there is animosity and hatred within the party. Since the election of the provincial leadership there has been a division. This seems to be getting stronger.
"This is creating fertile ground for some members of the ANC to stand as individual candidates in the election," he said.
