The best of KZN cultures in newly launched art exhibition
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
A proudly KZN photographic exhibition has been launched at the Durban Art Gallery.
The exhibition is a sample of KZN's people and its beauty.
Two photographers Khaya Ngwenya and Mluleki Dlamini were commissioned to showcase the cultures of six of KZN's district municipalities - Ugu, Harry Gwala, Zululand, Umgungundlovu, Umzinyathi and Umkhanyakude.
Ngwenya says his aim was to show the unknown cultures hidden in KZN.
"There are cultures and sub cultures that are not known in KZN in general. In KZN, is known for the Zulu culture only. Whereas, there are Bacas, Griquas," he said.
He says he's learned a lot from working on the photographic project.
"It's a big achievement for me to be part of this project. I feel like I'm a real KZN person. I've learnt so many new things about the culture of KZN. I was born and bred in KZN. I thought I knew the culture but after this, I learnt so many new things," he said.
The collection consists of 47 portraits and landscapes. It will be moved to the King Shaka International Airport in July.
