ANC takes responsibility for decline in voter support

The ANC's National Executive Committee says it's taken a collective responsibility for the way the party performed at the polls during the 2016 Local Government Elections earlier this month.
Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says there was no discussion around President Jacob Zuma stepping down.
Mantashe briefed the media last night after the four-day NEC meeting in Pretoria.
"Should we blame one person for the performance of the ANC? When does the leadership become a collective and when does it become individuals? The debate concluded that all of us in the NEC must take responsibility for the poor performance," he said.
Mantashe says the ANC is ready to be an opposition party if needs be.
Coalition talks are underway after the ANC failed to gain a clear majority in several metros and municipalities across the country.
A number of major municipalities - such as Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Nelson Mandela Bay and Johannesburg - are set to host their first council meetings this week where coalition talks will take place.
Some opposition parties had reportedly demanded that the ANC relieve Zuma of his duties as party leader as a condition for an alliances to be formed.
