Slain ANC councillor's family devastated by her death

The family of ANC councillor Zodwa Sibiya, who was killed at the weekend at the troubled Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, says they are shattered by her murder.
Speaking to Newswatch from the family home where prayer vigils have been taking place, her aunt and family spokesperson, Nonhlanhla Sibiya said they had often pleaded with Zodwa to come live with them but she refused.
Nonhlanhla says she was already in bed when she received a phone call from Zodwa's eldest daughter, telling her her mother had been shot and killed.
"I couldn't drive. I asked my daughter to drive because I was just finished. Then we went there. We asked them if we are safe because we are also scared because they know my car. I was also scared that when we go there they might finish us too.
"We found the body there, we went to check if it's her. It was really her. We saw the blood. There was a lot of police and the community was there. I was shocked - no one was talking. Everybody was quiet - not saying a word," she said.
Glebelands Hostel has been the scene of violence for many years, most of it politically-motivated.
