ANC caucus to protect Zuma from impeachment
Updated | By Troye Lund
The ANC caucus is expected to close ranks around President Jacob Zuma in Parliament today and prevent him from being impeached.
MPs will gather to debate a motion to remove Zuma from office after the Constitutional Court found that he'd failed to defend, respect and uphold the Constitution.
The unity that the ANC parliamentary caucus is expected to display today will paper over the increasing tension and division in the party over Zuma.

While Gauteng party leaders have broken ranks and gone public about their anti-Zuma views, ANC MPs are also divided on this.
But, if break ranks they will loose their seat which raises questions about the contradictions between the oath that MPs take to uphold the Constitution and hold Cabinet to account and their allegiance to party bosses.
Today’s motion for impeachment may not succeed but it will offer opposition parties with a perfect opportunity to rehash and remind the nation of the Consitutional Court’s unanimous and damning finding against the president and the ANC caucus who was found to have sacrificed the Constitution for party loyalty.
