50 000 to vote during home visits in KZN: IEC

With just two weeks to go to the 2016 elections, the Independent Electoral Commission says all preparations are going according to schedule.
The commission's held a media briefing at its Westville office this afternoon.
KZN's Chief Electoral Officer Mawethu Mosery says they have recorded 5.4 million voters in the province more than 82 000 of which have applied for special votes.
"50 000 of that 82 000 are people who have requested that we visit them at home.
"These would be the disabled, the sickly who are bedridden that we will visit at home. About a little over 29 000 will come to the voting station on the 1st and 2nd of August," he said.
The IEC says it remains concerned by the recent spate of murders in the province thought to have a political motive.
This week two more ANC councillor candidates were shot dead in Harding and Ladysmith.
Mosery explained what would happen with the candidacy of those killed.
"So we want to request and plead with families not to be aggrieved if their loved ones' names remain on the ballot and we expect that political parties who nominated them will continue to campaign for them and if they do win the ward, there will be a vacancy and a bi-election will take place within 90 days of the date we proclaim the outcome of the election," he said.
