Boom Shaka remembers Lebo Mathosa - 'We miss you'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Boom Shaka says "it’s just not the same without" Lebo Mathosa...
If you grew up in the 90s, then there is a good chance you knew all the lyrics to 'It's About Time' and/or rocked Boom Shaka-inspired braids.
Boom Shaka, which originally consisted of Lebo Mathosa, Thembi Seete, Junior Sokhela, and Theo Nhlengethwa, was one of the most well-known kwaito groups in South Africa.
However, when Lebo died in 2006, a big part of the group died with her. The group reflected on what she meant to them on what would have been her 47th birthday.
"Happy birthday, Angel #lebomathosa. You’ve been on our minds and in our hearts a lot lately. We talk about you every day and miss you so much," a post shared on Boom Shaka and Thembi's Instagram pages read.
They celebrated Lebo's birth on July 17 at Daruma By Oskido. The Japanese restaurant is owned by 'Back To The Future' hitmaker Oskido.
"Yesterday was especially tough, but we found comfort in sharing memories with @oskidoibelieve @darumabyoskido and enjoying your favorite dish, special chicken chow mein. It’s just not the same without you. We miss you more than words can express. We feel your presence every single time when we are on stage. Thank you for the gift of Music."

Lebo Mathosa Death
Lebo died in a car crash on 23 October 2006. She was 29. The 'Ntozabantu' singer was also well-known outside of South Africa.
She was one of the nominees at the 2006 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards. The British awards celebrate artists in various music categories, including hip-hop, gospel, and African music.
She also performed at Nelson Mandela's 85th birthday party. Several high-profile guests attended the celebration, including Hillary and Bill Clinton, Richard Branson, Bono, Oprah Winfrey and Naomi Campbell.
Boom Shaka fans still can't believe Lebo is no longer with us.
"I will never get over her death; I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard of her passing on radio. I still think about her and wonder where she could be right now. I felt Africa was robbed by her passing. I will always love her," one fan wrote on Instagram.
Another fan commented: "I was playing her music earlier today. What a powerhouse she was."
Boom Shaka will be celebrating 30 years in the music industry this year. Lebo would be proud that they are still together and thriving!
