'Something Beautiful' – Miley Cyrus debuts new song
Only Miley Cyrus can put multiple genres of music in one song and still make it sound perfect.
Miley Cyrus has entered a new music era, and it is something beautiful.
The 32-year-old released the title track from her new album, 'Something Beautiful'. She also dropped the track's music video, which blends "music and film into an immersive experience".
A statement about the music video says it "explores her deep connection to fashion showcasing an original custom design by Casey Cadwallader for the House of Mugler in the visual".
Cyrus is exploring a unique and creative approach to music. The song includes multiple genres, such as alt-R&B, rock and pop.
The combination is a soulful ballad that tugs at the heartstrings.
"Tell me somethin' beautiful, yeah, about this world / When I'm in your palm, I'm like a pearl / Tell me somethin' I can hold on to, you're who I belong to / I drown in devotion as deep as the ocean / So don't let me go, no, no, no," she sings.
Some have speculated that the track is dedicated to her boyfriend, Maxx Morando, a drummer in Liily.
He wrote and produced the song. Cyrus told Harper's Bazaar she enjoyed working with him on her new project.
"I've always worked with the people that I love. And Maxx just inspires me so much," she told the publication.
Morando, who is six years younger than Cyrus, also introduced her to new music.
"He looks at life really differently than I do. He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters. … Honestly, he's raised our dog off Reddit. I'm like, Are you sure we're supposed to be doing this? And he's like, On Reddit it says blah, blah, blah."
Fans are already calling 'Something Beautiful' their favourite Cyrus song.
"This has genuinely excited me. Like if Nine Inch Nails and Pink Floyd made a beautiful jazz baby," one YouTube user commented.
Another wrote: "Love that she switches her sound up, and we never know what we're gonna get with each album."
Shortly before 'Something Beautiful' dropped, Cyrus released, 'Prelude', which is in spoken word format.
"Prelude features Miley wearing archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture, as seen on the album artwork, shot by renowned fashion photographer Glen Luchford. The film's cinematography is helmed by Benoît Debie, adding to its striking visual narrative," her team said.
The 'Flowers' singer's new album features 13 new songs. It is inspired by Pink Floyd's 1979 album, 'The Wall', which also inspired a film of the same name.
The album will accompany a visual film, which Cyrus co-produces and co-directs.
"Something Beautiful will showcase Miley in a striking visual narrative, featuring archival Thierry Mugler couture, Jean Paul Gaultier, custom Alexander McQueen, and Alaïa."
'Something Beautiful' will be released on May 30, 2025. The album's visual film will premiere in June.
