"I am so honoured to have such an incredible talent and a beautiful soul join me on this track."
The 10th-anniversary edition of Sam Smith's 'In the Lonely Hour' album is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of 2024.
Sam, who uses the pronouns they/them, revealed this week that they teamed up with Alicia Keys to re-record their hit single, 'I’m Not The Only One'.
The song was the third track released from Sam's debut album in 2014. "I’m Not The Only One feat. the truly incomparable @aliciakeys coming Friday, August 2nd," they wrote on Instagram.
Sam says they are beyond thrilled to be working with the 16x Grammy Award winner.
"I am so honoured to have such an incredible talent and a beautiful soul join me on this track to celebrate a decade of 'In The Lonely Hour'. Released with the digital versions of 'In The Lonely Hour (10th Anniversary Edition)' this Friday."ALSO READ: Sam Smith: "It’s still hard to be queer"
Sam Smith Stay With Me
Sam has also recorded a new version of 'Stay With Me' for their anniversary edition of the song. The 32-year-old also changed the track's lyrics to reflect their non-binary identity.
"This song is truly so special to me, so for the 10 year anniversary I re-recorded the track, which will be available on all platforms & physical. Including the updated lyric ‘but I still need love, baby understand’ which felt really important to me. It's beautiful to know that sometimes, we can change the past," the English singer wrote in a letter to fans.
The original lyric read, "but I still need love, because I’m just a man."
Sam has also opened up about the meaning behind some of the songs on their 'In the Lonely Hour' album. In a recent Instagram post, they revealed that 'Lay Me Down', which is the last track on the standard version of the album, was inspired by their grandparents.
"This song is the song that truly set fire to my career and life. I wrote this song with @jimmynapes and Elvin. I had just turned 20 years old and was working in a bar in central London. Each of us wrote this song about different things I think, but I wrote this song for my Grandma and her love for my Grandpa. It was the greatest love I have ever known. I miss her."
'In the Lonely Hour (10 Year Anniversary Edition)' will be released on Friday. The reissue contains all 10 tracks from the original album and an unreleased song called, 'Little Sailor'.
