Maroon 5's awkward new album title raises eyebrows
Maroon 5 had no idea their new album title was linked to a men's rights group that is convinced feminism is a bad thing.
Maroon 5 released the cover art for their new album a few days ago, and the name they selected for the offering is getting some negative publicity.
The band's album, which drops on November 4, is titled 'Red Pill Blues'.
The name is inspired by the scene in 'The Matrix' movie where Neo, played by actor Keanu Reeves, is asked to choose between a red pill and blue pill.
"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes," Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) says in the movie.
Maroon 5 probably thought they had a clever title on their hands, but their album name has left many wondering about their intentions.
It soon came to light that the term "red pill" is linked to the men's rights group championing the 'Red Pill Movement'.
The anti-feminist group believes feminism is destroying mankind. The "red pill" represents their awakening from the evil of women.
A spokesperson for the band said they are "shocked" their new title is been referenced to the misogynist group, adding that it was never their intention of doing so.
The group is focusing on their new music. They just released a new song, featuring Julia Michaels, called 'Help Me Out'.
The third single released off their upcoming album, 'Whats Lovers Do' featuring SZA, is currently at number 10 on the Coca-Cola Top 40.
