Elton John: Five decades of great music

To celebrate Elton John turning 73 today, we look at his musical journey and some of the biggest hits he has released.
Elton John is a living legend.
For many decades, Elton has remained relevant.
Having sold over 300-million records, Elton’s record speaks for itself.
Some might not know that Elton John is not the musician's real name. His real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight and he was born on 25 March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England.

In an interview with Rowan Atkinson, Elton says he gave himself the name because he wanted to stand out.
“I used to be in a band and I wanted to become a singer in my own right and I wanted to choose a name and a saxophone player in the band was called Elton, so I chose that name,” he said.

In 2019, 'Rocketman', a movie based on Elton’s life, was released.
It shows Elton’s life from a young inspiring musician to a superstar. The star also has books written about his life. His autobiography is called, 'Me: Elton John Official Autobiography' and gives the legacy of Elton John in his own words and truth.

Music career
Elton John discovered his music gift from a young age. At age four, he was already playing the piano.
The music legend is a recipient of the Grammy Hall of Fame and has many awards.

His ninth album is the first compilation of his greatest hits. It was released in 1974 and had great success. It was #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart for two years and it received RIAA’s coveted diamond certification in the US, as well as in Canada. It has 34 songs including, 'Your Song', 'Tiny Dancer,' 'Honky Cat,' and 'Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long Long Time)'.
