Darren Maule's top 5 favourite music videos
Updated | By East Coast Radio
It is ‘More Music March’ and some of East Coast Radio’s favourite presenters are sharing their most loved songs and videos.
First up is East Coast Breakfast host, Darren Maule.
Darren grew up listening to different genres of music, thanks to his family’s diverse music tastes.
Pop, rock, soul, and punk - they loved it all.
“I was influenced by so many people. Growing up everyone loved music and everyone had their own taste, as well. From my mother to her friends to my four older brothers, everyone had different tastes and I was influenced by all of these tastes.
“My mom loved James Brown and The Beatles. We were a John Lennon-heavy family, not so much Paul McCartney,” says Darren.
Some of their other favourites include Fleetwood Mac, Percy Sledge, Teddy Pendergrass, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen.
Darren says listening to the different artists helped him discover what he liked and what he did not like.
“If I were to identify my greatest music icons as I child, music that I can listen to even now, definitely Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Sinead O'Connor.”
If you could listen to one song repeatedly for the rest of your life, which one would one you pick? It is a no-brainer for Darren.
“The one song I can listen to any time, any place, over and over again has got to be Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.”
Old school VS new school? Darren thinks old school wins every time – well, almost every time.
“The one time that new school beat old school was ‘Killing Me Softly’. The original was Roberta Flack. When the Fugees got ahold of ‘ Killing Me Softly With His Song’, that is definitely better, it’s just better.”
