Swedish pop singer-songwriter Marie Fredriksson passed away this week after battling with cancer for many years.

The famous singer is known for releasing songs such as ‘It Must Have Been Love’ and ‘Listen to Your Heart’ with her former Roxette member, Per Gessle.

The star succumbed to cancer on Monday after suffering with it for 17 years.

Reports state that Fredriksson suffered from a brain tumour in 2002, but according to CNN, she recovered following aggressive treatment.

However, years later, her health deteriorated, and she was told in 2016 to put a hold on her live performances.

The star has been praised by many for the contribution she made in the music world.

Her company, Dimberg Jernberg Management, said in a statement: “Marie leaves us a grand musical legacy. Her amazing voice -- both strong and sensitive -- and her magical live performances will be remembered by all of us who was lucky enough to witness them.”

Her music partner and friend Per Gessle said: "I'm proud, honoured and happy to have been able to share so much of your time, talent, warmth, generosity and sense of humour.”

Marie was born on 30 May 1958 in Össjö. She started her solo career in late 1983.

Her debut single, 'Ännu doftar kärlek', was released in 1984. It was followed by her 'Het vind' album.

In 1986, she released her second album, ‘Den sjunde vågen’ - which sold over 90,000 copies.

Marie has also won awards. She won the 1986 Rockbjörnen Award for Best Swedish Female.
