Camila Cabello’s ‘Should’ve Said It’ was inspired by Shawn Mendes

Camila Cabello says Shawn Mendes took too long to declare his love for her.
Singer Camila Cabello might be head over heels in love with Shawn Mendes, but their relationship almost didn't happen.
In an interview with 'Entertainment Tonight Canada', Camila revealed that the time Shawn proposed she was already in a relationship and had to say no to him.
"Someone I knew for a really long time, I had liked him, but he wasn't ready," she said.
"And so then he liked me, but I was not really there to like him in that way anymore, because I moved on,” the singer said.
Then that whole drama served as inspiration for ‘Should’ve Said It'.
“I was just kind of angry about it because I was like, ‘now you're saying that you're in love with me, you waited so long and now it's too late’. And so ‘Should’ve Said It’ is about that. I was just angry because I was like ugh, why did you wait so long to tell me? You should’ve said it," she said.
Camila was in a relationship with Matthew Hussey at the time Shawn wanted a relationship with her.
She says, however, that she felt bad saying no to a guy she loved.
The two finally got together in July.
Camila Cabello has revealed that her relationship with Shawn wasn’t so easy in the beginning.
“We started dating and I was just like, oh my god, this is crazy. I can't believe I get to kiss you in the middle of talking now, that's so weird. Or get to hold your hand. It’s weird that we’re going to call each other baby at some point. Like that’s really weird because I’ve only called you by your name for years," she said.
