The singer spoke about stereotypes associated with depression and how she managed to beat it.
Singer Michelle Williams has never been shy to talk about her struggle with depression.
She recently released her book: “Checking In: How Getting Real about Depression Saved My Life”.
In an interview with Melissa and Kev on #TheLoveHour, Williams spoke about how she started battling with depression from a young age.
“ I can trace it back all the way to seventh grade, but I didn’t get a proper diagnoses until I was in my 30s,” said the singer.

She says what motivated her to write her book was her need to help other people to not go through what she went through.
The need to seek help
Williams says it is hard to say you need help, but that is the first step to beating depression.
“It takes strength to say the three words: “I need help”,” said the star.
But, she added that society needs to realize the importance of therapy.
“You don’t have to go to therapy if you are broken. You can go to therapy to process a transmission – you lost a parent, you lost a job, you lost a relationship, which I mean those things can leave your heart broken, but therapy isn’t just for PTSD or something traumatic happened,” she said.

She said people need to stop shaming others for getting help.
The star adds that she made a conscious decision to confront depression in 2019 and started her healing process.
“2019 was my entire year to check in with myself. Do the healing work. Do the counselling. Do the therapy. Work out, eat right, check in with others, check in with God," she said.
The 'Say Yes' hitmaker advice society to stop being judgmental towards those with mental health issues.
