It’s one of the biggest local hits of the past year – and Mi
Casa’s ‘Mamela’ just hit a major milestone.
Mi Casa have a lot to celebrate this week as their smash hit 'Mamela' achieves gold status for sales in excess of 10,000 units. The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) equates 120 streams to one unit.
‘Mamela’ has become one of Mi Casa’s biggest hits to date and as the track continues to win over the hearts of South Africans around the country, the group has revealed that the track has officially achieved gold status in South Africa.
Sharing the news on social media, J’Something, Dr Duda, and Mo-T showed off plaques awarded to them by Universal Music South Africa and Afroforce1 Records.
“Honestly right now we have no words to describe how we’re feeling but please know this - YOU made this happen. You played the song with your loved ones, pumped it at your events, sang along to it on radio, tagged us in your stories and so many other moments! Seriously - thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Mi Casa said alongside the post.
J’Something, the group’s lead singer, says that ‘Mamela’ is the one song off the group’s latest album, ‘We Made It’, that means the most to him personally so, naturally, he was thrilled with the positive response the song received since its release.
“[This] a song that stands for one of the most trying times in my life,” the singer explains. “The song is a story about a man and a woman facing an extremely tricky situation and they find their hope in dreaming of a getaway. They escape their reality in their day dream. It’s an incredible love story.”
