Mariah Carey and Brandy make surprise appearances at BET Awards

The 2022 BET Awards brought out some of America's biggest stars. The annual awards show celebrates black culture and features top artists from both the music and film industry. 

Television and literature artists are also recognised on the night. This year's winners included Megan Thee Stallion, Silk Sonic, The Weeknd, Mary J Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Jazmine Sullivan. 

Nigerian superstars Tems and Wizkid were also big winners on the night. Their hit single, 'Essence', won in the 'Best Collaboration' category. 

Tems was also crowned 'Best International Act'. South Africa's Major League DJz were also nominated in the category. 

Rapper Diddy was awarded the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' while Mary J Blige took home the 'BET HER Award'.

Singer and actress Zendaya received a nod in the 'Best Actress' category. NBA star, Steph Curry, was named "Sportsman of the Year'.

No awards ceremony is complete without epic performances. The BET Awards did not disappoint. Some of the top performers on the night included Lizzo, Lil Kim, and Busta Rhymes. 

Latto, who was named 'Best New Artist', surprised the audience by bringing out music icon, Mariah Carey, on stage.

Jack Harlow's performance also featured some surprise appearances. He shared the stage with Brandy and Lil Wayne. 

The 24-year-old rapper made headlines in May when he revealed that he did not know Brandy. But the 'First Class' hitmaker definitely knows the Grammy Award winner now.

Brandy described their performance as a "dream come true". 

"Did this really happen? Dream come true@jackharlow x @liltunechi. Jack, thank you for such an amazing opportunity. Love for life," she wrote on Instagram.
