Madonna is marking the anniversary of her near-death experience by reflecting on how far she has come.

The 65-year-old spent several days in the hospital in 2023 after contracting a serious bacterial infection. She was also placed in a medically-induced coma.

"A year ago today, I had just come home from the hospital after surviving a life-threatening illness; I could barely stand in my backyard holding one sparkler. I made a miraculous recovery and had an amazing year. Thank you, God. Life is beautiful!" she wrote while celebrating Independence Day in America.

Madonna credited her children with helping her overcome her illness.

"Love from family and friends is the best Medicine... up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving……….. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference," she wrote several weeks after she was released from the hospital.

Madonna recovered from her illness and kicked off her 'Celebration Tour' in October 2023. Her children, including Estere, joined her on stage during some of her shows.

She thanked them for taking part in the tour in a sweet message she shared on Instagram in April.

"On the day before our 80th show of the Celebration Tour I need to acknowledge my incredibly talented children who carried me through this Journey each of them bringing their own unique talent to the stage.

"Rehearsals began over a year ago with almost a 2-month break waiting for me [to] recover from a near-death experience. They never stopped practicing… they never stopped cheering me on and supporting me. [Their] enthusiasm kept me Going!!!
They were also going to school and rehearsing every night!! Am so very proud of all of them," she wrote.

Madonna wrapped up the tour in a record-breaking concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in May

The singer's fans are glad she overcame her near-death experience to give them one of the best shows of her career.

"Madonna, I’m so grateful you’re alive. Seeing your beautiful smile and sparkling eyes on tour, hearing your comforting voice, and feeling so many emotions alongside you throughout your retrospective meant more than ever. I love you and can’t wait to see where your inspiration and wisdom lead you next!" one commented on her 4th of July post.

Another fan commented: "Lets talk about Madonna being 65 years old and still living her best life like she’s 25 years old."
