Kirk Franklin receives backlash after cursing his son in leaked phone call
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Although Kirk Franklin says he lost his temper, many of his fans say that is not the way a father or should speak to his son.
A recorded phone call between gospel star Kirk Franklin and his son Kerrion went viral over the weekend.
Kerrion recorded Franklin cursing him in an argument. It is not clear what the argument was about.
Franklin can be heard saying words such as “put my foot in you’re a**", "break your neck" and “mother f****ing a**”.
Kerrion also uses vulgar language to respond to his father. The 32-year-old leaked the heated conversation on Instagram.
*WARNING: Strong language*
Franklin took to Twitter to apologise for the inappropriate words he used while addressing his son.
He explained that he lost his temper.
“Many of you know I have an older son Kerrion Franklin. In May he will be 33. For many years, we have had a toxic relationship with him as a family. We have tried for many years through counselling, through therapy to try to rectify this private, family matter.
"Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation and I lost my temper, and I said words that are not appropriate,” he said in the video.
The ‘Stomp’ hitmaker added that he was “sincerely sorry” for his remarks.
"I'm not perfect, I'm a human and I'm going to make mistakes, and I'm trying to get it right.
“Please keep me and my family in your prayers.”

Franklin’s apology received a mixed reaction on social media.
What was recorded, irregardless of context, was verbally abusive Kirk. You are a public Christian figure. You can’t have the privilege of a public platform built on integrity & character & then say “personal matter” when it comes to how you speak to your kids. 🙏🏾 4 U, but own it.

Listen, you are not perfect, and our children can take us to a place we don't want to visit. But, sometimes we do, more than once. We are all works in progress. God is not through with you Kirk Franklin🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤

If this is how you are when you lose your temper, then its NOT the first time you've done this or the first person you've done it to. Don't listen to people telling you that this was okay or that you didn't owe anyone an apology.
