Katy Perry reveals we've all been singing 'Firework' wrong

Say what now? You won't believe what Katy Perry is actually singing...

Kary Perry just corrected one of the lyrics in her hit single, 'Firework'. Based on the correction, just about everyone under the sun - excluding Katy - has been singing one line incorrectly.

Katy released the smash hit in October 2010. The song became a sensation, selling millions of copies and claiming the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

But now - nearly 12 years later - Katy has decided to drop a bombshell. While everyone has been singing "Make 'em go, up, up, up" or "Make 'em go, ahh ahh, ahh", the 37-year-old has actually been singing:

"Make 'em go awe, awe, awe"

MORE FROM EAST COAST RADIO:

Katy made the correction after an episode of 'American Idols'. Her fellow judge, Luke Bryan - like many of us, started belting out the famous chorus... incorrectly.

Katy immediately corrects him. "It's not 'up, up, up' and it's not 'ah, ah, ah'... it's 'awe, awe, awe'. A-w-e," she says.

She also took to her Instagram page to clarify that it is just "firework" and not "fireworksss", as some people have been singing.

Meanwhile, another song by the 'Roar' hitmaker is making headlines. A Christian rapper named Marcus Gray filed a copyright claim against Katy's hit single, 'Dark Horse', several years ago.

The rapper sued Katy in 2014, claiming the song was similar to his track, 'Joyful Noise'. A jury verdict awarded him $2.8-million (R42-million) in 2019. The verdict was later overturned and Marcus filed an appeal.

According to Variety, a federal appeals court this week ruled in Katy's favour. Other stars facing copyright lawsuits include Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran.

Lawsuits aside, Katy's music is doing well on the charts.

Her latest hit with Alesso, 'When I'm Gone', is currently at number eight on the East Coast Radio Top 40 chart.
