South Korean singer Somin nails Tyla's 'Truth or Dare'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Somin's fans are praising her "amazing vocals" in her cover of a popular Tyla song.
Tyla's songs are loved not only by her fans but also by her fellow musicians.
Somin, a member of the K-pop group Kard, showed off her impressive vocals in her rendition of Tyla's 'Truth or Dare'.
Kard shared a clip of Somin singing the song on the group's official YouTube channel. It's part of their 'Kardist' series.
"‘KARDist’ is a fusion of ‘KARD’ and ‘Artist’, a cover content series spotlighting the artistic sides of the four members. Yet it's not just about covering songs; it's about taking fans on a musical journey to various cities worldwide with KARD through music shorts. KARD will bring their unique interpretation to songs by renowned artists," a description of the series read.
The group's fans have been left impressed by Somin's solo efforts.
"She doesn’t get enough recognition for her amazing vocal skills! She really knows how to utilize her voice! And it’s crazy how fluent she is when she sings different languages, even though she actually isn’t fluent," one YouTube user commented.
Another user wrote: "Her VOICE OMG !!!! Her vocals are insane and the English pronunciation!"
Kard was formed in 2017. Unlike K-pop groups such as Blackpink and BTS, who are either all-female or all-male, Kard is co-ed.
Aside from Somin, the group consists of J.Seph, Jiwoo, and BM. Their hit songs include 'Bomb Bomb', 'Don't Recall', 'Hola Hola', and 'Oh NaNa'.

Tyla, meanwhile, continues to ride the wave of her 'It Girl' era. She is featured in a new interview with V Magazine. The 22-year-old opened up about her rise to fame, her debut album, TYLA, and growing up in South Africa.
"When I was younger, I always wanted to see a South African girl doing the things that I wanted to do. So I really would like to give that [example] to not only South African girls, but all African girls, and all girls everywhere—just to show that no matter where you’re from, it is possible. Because being in South Africa, it didn’t seem possible [for me] at the time," the Grammy Award-winner said.

MORE FROM EAST COAST RADIO:
Tyla started writing music when she was just 12 years old, and she tells V Magazine that those early years helped develop her as an artist.
"All those years of writing, making music by myself, performing in talent shows or for family, acting in plays—I feel like all of those moments developed me in a way and help me now as a performer and as an artist. Just having had some sort of experience, even though it wasn’t professional, it definitely helped me."
While overseas audiences were introduced to Tyla's music in 2023 through 'Water', she released her first single 'Getting Late' in 2019.
She released the song's music video in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic put the brakes on her career. Fast forward to 2023, when Tyla entered the global international music scene with her Billboard 100 top 10 single, 'Water'.
"I feel like maybe [because] it was something new. It was even new for people back home in South Africa, because even though the [Bacardi] dance style was around for years, it was never really [applied to modern] music like this. So it was that dance style with the style of music that I make, and I feel like people just liked it. And I’m happy that they did because it really changed my whole life," she told V magazine.
