Gayle reveals the inspiration behind her EP: 'Growing up is about making mistakes'
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Gayle is expected to pour her heart out in her upcoming EP. The songs on the offering are inspired by some of her life experiences.
'ABC' singer Gayle is gearing up for the release of her new EP, 'A Study of the Human Experience Volume One'.
In the build-up to the EP's release date - which is March 18 - Gayle has been sharing the inspiration behind some of the songs.
"When I was younger I had an image in my head of who I was going to be when I got older. How I was going to act, how I was going to dress, what type of friends I was going to have, the things I wasn’t going to do till I was married or twenty-one, and then I grew up and stuck to none of it," the 17-year-old wrote on Instagram.
Gayle says she realised that what she wanted in life has changed - and "that's okay".
"The study of the human experience for me is about my life experiences and the people I collaborated with on the project experience. For me, growing up is about making mistakes and learning from them. it just sucks sometimes that I have to make so many to learn."
The singer and songwriter's breakthrough song, 'ABC', is currently at number one on the East Coast Radio Top 40. It's also at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in America.
Gayle released the song in 2021. It was her first release with a major label. TikTok users resonated with the track's break-up lyrics, which led to it going viral in December.
While Gayle is yet to officially release the full tracklist for her upcoming EP, 'ABC' will likely feature. 'UR Just Horny' - the follow-up to her hit single - will also make the cut.
She told People that the song was inspired by a friend who started treating her differently after they became romantically involved. Gayle added that it's not always easy expressing her feelings in her music.
"It's an intimidating thing to be openly angry it was something that I did with 'abc' and people were fully accepting me for it, which is really lovely. It also gave me the confidence of really allowing myself to hold this person accountable for their actions," she said.
A leaked tracklist shows that 'Luv Started', 'Kiddie Pool', 'Sleeping With Friends', and 'Z' will also feature on Gayle's EP.
She shared the inspiration for some of the songs on her Instagram page.
Gayle also hinted that she is already working on volume two of her EP.
