Diane Warren reflects on iconic song she wrote for Aerosmith
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Diane Warren says she was blown away by Steven Tyler's vocals in a song she wrote for the 1998 film, 'Armageddon'.
Diane Warren has revealed how Aerosmith brought one of her biggest songs to life.
The award-winning songwriter, who was recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, says the band's performance of 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' blew her out of her chair.
Warren wrote the song for the 1998 movie, 'Armageddon', starring Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis, and Liv Tyler - who just happens to be the daughter of the band's lead singer, Steven Tyler
The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for 'Best Original Song' at the Oscars.
"I never, ever thought Aerosmith would do my song. They just don’t do that," she told Billboard about working with the band.
Warren initially wanted Celine Dion to sing the song but says Tyler exceeded her expectations.
"I wasn’t in the studio when they were recording so it went from me teaching Steven Tyler the song at the piano to someone sending me the CD and hearing the finished record. I was blown out of my chair; it was so great," she told Billboard.
