Britney Spears deletes post slamming Halsey's 'Lucky' music video

A post from Britney's social media account claimed she would be speaking to her lawyers about Halsey's "downright cruel' music video. However, she now says that it wasn't her.

Britney Spears is setting the record straight after seemingly making shocking remarks about Halsey's new music video, 'Lucky'.

Halsey's new song and music video is inspired by Britney's 2000 single of the same name. She also samples Britney's chorus in her song.

"'Cause I'm so lucky, I'm a star / But I cry, cry, cry in my lonely heart / Thinkin' if there's nothin' missin' in my life / Then why do these tears come at night," Halsey sings.

'Lucky' has a deeply personal meaning for the 29-year-old, who recently opened up about her health battle

"The lucky music video is out, and it’s a lot of feelings happening over here. It was really challenging to incorporate so many conflicting emotions in just a few minutes. This campaign has been fun because I WANT to have fun, but I made lot of this art when I was suffering," she wrote on Instagram

MORE FROM EAST COAST RADIO:

In one part of the music video, Halsey takes off her pink wig, revealing short hair underneath. Many Britney fans took offence, thinking she was trying to mock the 2007 incident when Britney shaved her head.

"Shame on you for doing this to Britney. Hasn't she gone through enough?" one Instagram user wrote. Halsey has had short hair for a while, and she explains in the song's lyrics why.

"I shaved my head four times because I wanted to / And then I did it one more time 'cause I got sick (I'm so lucky) / And I thought I'd change so much, nobody would notice it / And no one did / Then I left the doctor's office full of tears / Became a single mom at my premiere / And I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year / And that's the biggest lie of my career," Halsey sings.

She confirmed before releasing 'Lucky' that she got permission to interpolate her song, but it seems Britney is not a fan of her music video.

"For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all. I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account," the Britney account wrote.

The post concluded: "I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and down right cruel.”

Halsey's fans were shocked by Britney's comments, with some saying she had completely misinterpreted the meaning of her music video.

"Apparently Britney is very upset. By her statement, it looks like she thinks you’re making fun of her, she doesn’t understand it’s your own life you’re portraying. Maybe reaching out to her would be good to explain!! I don’t know why you didn’t reach out before, if Britney understood maybe she would have even been in the video. As a huge Britney fan, I like your video and your message, and I hope, Britney can see it too," an Instagram user wrote.

Britney later returned to X (Twitter) to say she loves Halsey.

"Fake news!!! That was not me on my phone!!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it!!!" the 'Oops!…I Did It Again' hitmaker tweeted.

Halsey replied to Britney's tweet saying she loves her too.

"You were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me every day."

Several people including Demi Lovato showed Halsey some love on Instagram.

"Thank you for your courage, strength and vulnerability.. you’re an inspiration to so many including myself," Demi wrote.
