LISTEN: Some Durban beaches reopened
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Shark nets are being restored on beaches where the nets were removed or damaged by tidal waves at the weekend.
The waves battered Durban's promenade - dumping sand and debris onto the popular Golden Mile and leaving shops and restaurants in ruins.
A clean-up operation is ongoing while some of the city's beaches remain closed to bathers and lifeguards.

The estimated cost of the damage to the Durban beachfront alone is estimated to be between R5-million and R10-million - excluding losses incurred by affected restaurants.
The board's Mike Anderson- Reade says residents will be alerted when the status changes.
For safety reasons, beaches including Battery Beach, Country Club Beach and eThekwini Beach remain closed.
