Five essential items that Damon carries to the beach during the festive season
Updated | By Damon Beard
‘These items are things that I never leave the house without when deciding to head out for a day on the shores,’ says Damon.
If you know me, you would know that I absolutely love going to the beach. It’s the one place that I find peace, calm, and serenity as I watch the waves crash on the shore.
Hitting the beach always sounds like a pretty good idea to me, but the worst is getting there and forgetting to carry something that you knew you should have on you. Eek!
Here are five things that I never forget when I'm heading to the beach:
Water
Yes, I know that if you head to the beach there's a whole ocean in front of you, but we also need about eight full glasses of water a day to keep hydrated. A total must-have for me.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen!
Make sure you know which SPF suits you and then just literally bathe yourself in it to protect one of the most precious organs of your body. While you think you may not be burning, most people are surprised when they get home and they feel like a boiled lobster.

Umbrella
There’s nothing worse than baking in the sun and not finding yourself a small patch of shade to rest under. Trust me on this one, especially during the festive season, the beaches are going to be packed and it’s going to be hot out there. An umbrella is a necessity!
Baby Powder
Ever leave the beach and get back into your car with half of the beach inside your car? Take along some baby powder, just wipe it onto your sandy feet and the sand magically falls off. Voila!
Radio
Whether it’s carrying an old school radio or just an app on your phone, a radio is a must as you take in the scenery whilst listening to KZN’s number 1 radio station – East Coast Radio, of course!
Do you have any essentials that you can’t leave the house without when going to the beach? Feel free to share them with me in the comments section below:
