Four African nations ban SA cold meat imports

Botswana says it's recalling the items with immediate effect while Zambia has called on South African retail chains in its country to pull affected products from local shelves.

A nationwide recall of chilled processed meat is underway here - due to the deadly listeriosis outbreak.

says this is the largest-ever recorded outbreak of listeriosis.  

On Sunday, the Health Minister ordered South Africans to stop eating all processed ready-to-eat meat products after the source of the outbreak was traced to an Enterprise polony factory in Polokwane.

Consumers can return their products for a full refund from Checkers, Pick n Pay, Food Lover’s Market as well as Freshstop stores. 

KZN Health MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo's urging people to put their health and that of their family's first and remove all chilled processed meat products from their fridges.

"These new developments must be taken seriously. Let's restrain from consuming uncooked meat especially polony, viennas and the like," Dhlomo said.
