Don’t throw away your favourite white t-shirt or blouse because of stains or discolouration just yet. These easy tricks can help you get your clothes sparkling white again.
Don’t you just hate it when you can’t wear your white clothes anymore because it’s become dull and yellow? Stop spending money on costly detergents that don’t always work, these tricks may be just what you need to save your white clothes.
Wash white clothes separately
We all know that dark and bright colours should be washed separately, but even light colours can transfer dye onto white clothes.
The best thing to do when it comes to washing your white clothes is to wash them separately from the rest of the laundry. This will ensure that they don’t lose their white colour.
Make sure your washing machine is clean
It may sound pretty obvious that the washing machine should be clean, but many people go for months without cleaning their washing machines. If your washing machine is not clean, the dirt on it might be transferred to your laundry.
Clean your washing machine at least once a month to get all the sticky, build-up dirt out.
Follow the instructions on your clothing item
Following instructions is very important and will help you keep your clothing in tip top condition.
If the instructions say ‘don’t bleach’, then DO NOT BLEACH. You may think bleach will make your whites whiter, however, it can damage some fabrics and turn whites yellow.
Use lemon juice
Did you know that lemon juice is a great natural way to restore whiteness to your clothes? All you need is lemon juice, salt and a bit of sunshine.
The video below will show you how to use lemon juice and salt to restore whiteness to your clothes.
Use baking soda
Baking soda is great for restoring whites. Mix one cup of baking soda in four litres of water and soak your white clothes for one to two hours. Then wash your white clothes like you normally would.
Make use of white vinegar
Vinegar can do wonders when it comes to restoring your whites. It will not only make your white clothes remain white, but it also softens the fabric.
See how to use vinegar and other methods to whiten your clothes in the video below.
