Three natural ways to whiten your teeth at home
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental procedure done in South Africa today. This comes as no surprise as your teeth have an overall effect on your appearance.
But going to the dentist to whiten your teeth can be quite expensive. Dentists charge roughly R3,000 for teeth whitening, depending on which dentist you use. A variety of treatments and whitening products are also available on the market and do the trick, but they don’t come cheap either.
Take a look at three simple, cheap, and easy ways to improve your smile naturally:
Have an apple
“An apple a day keeps the dentist away”. Apples wash away the surface stains after eating a meal and get rid of tartar between the teeth. They also have Vitamin C in them, which can brighten your teeth.
Use baking soda
Baking soda is great for making your teeth whiter. This is because it removes stains and plaque from teeth by removing acids that are made by bacteria. So mix baking soda with water to get a paste and then put the paste on your toothbrush and brush your teeth for one minute, then rinse. Before you know it, your teeth will be white again!
Brush your teeth with a banana skin
This may sound unbelievable, but it has been proven to work. Firstly, bananas are natural and don’t have any harsh chemicals in them. However, they contain minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and manganese, and they get absorbed into your enamel and have healthy whitening effects. All you need to do is take the banana skin, rub it against your teeth, leave it for a while (approximately five minutes), then go rinse. This can be done twice a day and results should start showing within a month.
Tip: Drink everything apart from water through a straw to save your teeth from any more stains!
