Study: Sharing chores as a couple strengthens your relationship
Updated | By ThriveIn
Do you want to enhance the quality of your relationship? Sharing chores may be the answer!
There are many things people do to enhance their relationships. It can be going out on dates, setting aside time for intimacy, or simply buying each other gifts. Although all these activities are important, there is one thing that couples might neglect - sharing chores.
When one partner is unhappy about the allocation of household chores, it's obvious that the stress level in the home can increase and one might feel burdened and not cared for.
No wonder new research has found that one of the secret ingredients to having a more intimate relationship is sharing chores around the house, especially helping each other with washing dishes.
The research conducted by the Council of Contemporary Families found that sharing chores reduced relationship discord and led to women feeling more satisfied in relationships.
“Women who found themselves doing the lion’s share of dishwashing reported significantly more relationship discord, lower relationship satisfaction, and less sexual satisfaction than women who split the dishes with their partner,” the study’s lead author and assistant professor of sociology at the University of Utah, Daniel Carlson, reported.
“Sharing responsibility for dishwashing was the single biggest source of satisfaction for women among all the household tasks, and lack of sharing of this task the single biggest source of discontent,” he added.
