How to host the perfect braai using a gas braai

are three things you need to know about gas braaing…
If you’re tired of waiting for the charcoal or wood in your braai stand to start flaming, then you might want to invest in a gas braai.
Don’t get us wrong, we love a traditional braai but sometimes you just want to get your meat cooking quickly – especially if you start your braai a bit late in the day.
Gas braais provide instantaneous heat, which means you can start braaing your meat and vegetables much sooner than the standard braai stand.
A gas braai is also known to produce less smoke, which means no complaining from your neighbours.
Here are a few tips to ensure a perfect gas braai.
Check your gas
Before you turn your gas braai on, do the gas leak checks that are provided with the manual. Be sure to also check that you have enough gas before starting. The last thing you want is to run out halfway through.
Clean your gas braai first
Clean your grill before braaing to remove any residue build up as this will not only create more smoke, but it will also affect the taste of your meat. Pre-heat your gas braai on high heat. Then brush off residue. Don’t forget to remove any food that has fallen into the grill.
Know what temperatures to cook your food
The great thing about using a gas braai or grill is that you can control the temperature. This is important as some foods require fast cooking over your braai’s flames, while others require indirect heat. For example, beef burger patties (depending on their thickness) need to be cooked on high heat and they are ready in minutes. Chicken pieces need medium heat, as cooking them on high can cause them to dry out. Whole chickens need to be cooked using indirect heat (turn off the burners directly under the chicken on your gas braai) and at a lower temperature. Some gas braais come with lids that have thermostats. Placing the lid over your meat/chicken can help you monitor the temperature.
