5 things that are overlooked when spring cleaning
Updated | By ThriveIn
Spring is finally here and that means it is time for spring cleaning.
Nothing is as refreshing as a home that is clean and fresh.
If you’re trying to save some money, instead of hiring a professional cleaner rather do it yourself, with a little help from us of course!
We look at five things that are often overlooked when cleaning to ensure that you have a perfectly clean house.
Mattress
We tidy our beds every morning, but how often do you remember to clean the mattress?
Your mattress can be full of dirt. Spills, dust mites, sweat, stains etc. are just a few examples of dirt found on mattresses. Therefore, it’s very important that you vacuum your mattress often and give it a proper clean at least twice a year.
To properly clean your mattress, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Alternatively, you can put baking soda on top of the mattress, leave it for 15 minutes and then vacuum it.
Remember to also rotate your mattress. According to mattress.com, mattresses should be rotated once every three months. This makes them last longer. Just make sure the manufacturer suggests it, some mattresses don’t need to be rotated.
Shower curtains
There is really no need to frequently replace your shower curtain unless of course it is torn or worn out.
But you do need to clean it regularly. Check out for scum, mould or mildew build-up on the curtain.
Shower curtains can easily be washed in your washing machine.
Pillows
Hair chemicals, sweat and oils from face lotions and make-up removers can damage and stain your pillows.
However, many people don’t want to wash pillows because it’s hard work and they believe the pillows will lose their shape. Don’t fear, with these tips you can wash your pillows properly and still have them in top shape, looking clean and white.
Drawers, wardrobe and shelves
Dust and dirt love hiding behind and inside drawers and cupboards.
To ensure your drawers and shelves are thoroughly cleaned, remove everything and thoroughly clean using multi-purpose cleaner.
The below video has tips on how to clean cupboards and drawers using baking soda or vinegar.
Oven
After months of roasting and baking, your oven will get dirty.
If there’s an unpleasant smell when you switch it on, if it has rust or residue on the bottom or if the door is coated in grease, then it’s time for a good clean.
The below video is a great guide on how you can clean your oven with ingredients that are probably in your kitchen cupboard already.
