Fun Kid Lunches
Updated | By Anthea Carstens
With the wide variety of foods available, and dealing with fussy eaters, parents are looking for ways to make their children’s lunchbox contents more exciting, healthier, and tastier. Here are a few easy ideas for you to try on your kids.
Lunch Kebabs
Food that’s easy to hold and eat is top of the list for children, so kebabs are perfect. Make delicious kebabs using chunks of grilled chicken or folded up slices of ham, cherry tomatoes, blocks of cheese, cucumber, and a few green leaves. They’re healthy, crunchy, and tasty. And your kids will love eating food they can hold on a stick.
Snack Box
Pack an easy snack lunch that your kids will love. Slice up some smoked chicken breasts, viennas or slices of cold meat. Prepare pieces of your children’s favourite veggies like carrots, snap peas, baby corn, and cucumber, as well as some crackers. Make a dip they’ll like from ingredients like yoghurt, salad dressing, avocado, and mayonnaise, and don’t forget to add some fruit on the side like blueberries, raspberries, and apple slices. This packed lunch will keep them energised all day.
Mini Pizzas
Most children love pizzas, and these mini pizzas will make anyone happy. All you need is a frozen pizza base – you can get the mini ones, or cut up a large one into mini squares. Top them with some tomato paste, chopped up meat, chopped up veggies like broccoli or mushroom, and of course some grated cheese. Pop them in the oven until they’re good and the cheese is bubbling and pack them in a lunchbox once they’ve cooled.
Sweet Treats
Instead of packing those chocolates or packets of sweets for your children, sweet snacks like chopped up strawberries, grapes, and other fruits with some yoghurt might be a better idea. Snacks are great, but even better when they’re healthier.
