Monday Motivation: “You do not find the happy life. You make it”
Updated | By Poelano Malema
This Monday motivation, we look at ways of how you can take charge of your own happiness.
“You do not find the happy life. You make it.” This is a famous quote by Camilla Eyring Kimball.
Thinking that happiness is somewhere out there and it can be found is a great misconception. Happiness is not something that is found, it is created.
Happiness is not something that someone else brings your way, it is something you work on.
Often we give people too much power over our happiness. We allow them to be the master of our emotional well-being. The truth is that you are responsible for your happiness.
You are created and have been equipped to be able to make the best of your life.

Let's look at five ways to cultivate your happiness:
Positive thinking
The mind plays a huge role when it comes to how you feel. Your thoughts not only affect your emotions but it is linked to your overall well-being and can even affect your health.
Focusing one's thoughts on things that are not going well and spending a lot of time on them will negatively affect your happiness.
One of the greatest recipes for happiness is to count your blessings instead of your problems. The more intentional you are about filtering out negative thoughts, the more you will make way for your mind to come up with positive thoughts that will direct you to a more fulfilling life.
Positive action
Creating happiness does not stop with positive thinking, but it will require taking positive action to ensure you maintain the happiness.
The small actions we take in our lives lead to great milestones. Choosing to take positive action is what will fuel your happiness.

Live a healthy life
Your health affects how you feel. Taking care of your health is a step in the right direction towards maintaining your peace and happiness.
Your health is not only limited to your physical body, but your mental and spiritual health are also important. When your whole being is taken care of, you will feel more at peace and happy.
Treat others the way you want to be treated
Do unto others what you want them to do unto you. When you are kind to others and treat them well, you feel better about yourself and make room for others to also treat you well.
Being good to others and receiving the same good treatment will be beneficial to your emotional wellness.

Stay away from triggers
Identify triggers and stay away from the things that steal your peace and happiness.
A wise person knows when to let go of things and relationships.
If being in a relationship with certain people is toxic, make peace with letting go.
Rather focus your energy on things that you enjoy doing and spend your life with people that are good for you. This way, nothing and no one can get in the way of enjoying your happiness.
