Durban now has the longest beachfront promenade
in Sub-Saharan Africa, and we are all kinds of excited about the new
development.
It's almost the festive season, which means holidaymakers from all over South Africa will soon be descending on Durban.
The city's beachfront promenade just got a major upgrade in the form of a 750-metre extension.
The R380-million extension, which was officially opened on Saturday, is just in time for the busy December holiday period.
Durban now has the longest beachfront promenade in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Durban officials expect the new extension to bring in more tourism for the city. There will also be extra security during the holidays.
Here's a look at a few things you can do while enjoying the new extension and the rest of the Durban's beautiful beachfront promenade.
Enjoy a taste of Durban
Foodies will be happy to know that several new local restaurants and cafés will be opening up along the new extension. You can enjoy a delicious family breakfast or lunch with a beautiful view of the beach. There's no way you can visit Durban's promenade and not enjoy a spicy pineapple masala kebab or a bunny chow!
Fun times at the amphitheater
The new extension has an amphitheater, which means lots of fun activities will be taking place during the December-January holiday period.

Morning jog, walk, bike ride
There's no better way to start your day than with a morning jog or walk along the promenade. You can also ride your bike and the kiddies can bring along their skateboards. The new extension will allow you to walk, jog or ride from the harbour mouth all the way to Blue Lagoon.
Beach yoga
Yogis can practice their yoga moves on the beach. There is nothing more calming than hearing the ocean while doing yoga or meditating.
Not only is Durban the warmest place to be all-year round, but Durban also has more of everything - more to see and more fun to be had.
