What we wear can be a form of self-expression.

You can tell a lot about a person's character from the clothes they choose to wear.

Heidi Grant Halvorson, social psychologist and author of 'No One Understands You and What To Do About It', spoke to CBS This Morning about how formal wear has a psychological effect on those who wear it.

She says when people wear formal clothing, they feel more powerful and they look more powerful to other people.

The psychologist adds that it helps people to be more creative and see the bigger picture. This in turn helps them with problem solving.

Another article by Forbes, based on the work of Dr Baumgartner, the author of 'You Are What You Wear', describes the following personalities:

- A person who finds it hard to give away clothes as someone who clings to the past through the sentimental value of his or her pieces.

- A person who wears only neutrals and largely devoid of accessories is someone who is stuck in a psychological rut, too comfortable to shake it up, or too afraid to draw attention to his or herself.

- A person who dresses in clothing too large for his or her body is someone who sees his or her body differently than others see it, or as a reflection of the way it once was.

- A person who has been told he or she dresses inappropriately or too sexily is someone who is looking for the wrong kind of attention. .
