Understanding tides and moon phases in fishing

Ever wonder why some days you catch fish all afternoon, while others leave you with an empty cooler? The secret might be written in the stars (and the tides).

In the latest Expert Series edition of the Angler News SA podcast, fishing expert Dave Irvine discusses how moon phases and tides impact fishing.

Vinesh Soogreem and Dave delve into various questions about the best tides for fishing, differentiating between rip currents and rip tides, and the effects of full moons, spring tides, and new moons on fishing conditions.

Dave offers detailed insights into the optimal times and locations for fishing based on tidal movements and lunar cycles.

He says while all tides can be productive, success depends on understanding the location and target species. The conversation also covers using rip currents to an angler's advantage and the influence of changing seasons on fishing conditions.
