South African celebs share their kids' back-to-school snaps
Schools started re-opening their doors this week and some of South Africa's biggest stars shared pictures of their children's first day.
Back to school, back to reality! The 2022 school year is officially underway in several parts of the country.
Inland schools re-opened their doors on Wednesday, while schools in coastal provinces will return next week. Some private schools in KZN have also opened.
Celebrities have joined scores of parents in sharing pictures of their children's first day at school.
Here's a look at some of their adorable snaps.

Gail Mabalane
Actress Gail Mabalane couldn't resist sharing a picture of her daughter Zoe's first day in big school.
"Yep! I’m THAT mom. How could I NOT be? My precious little girl…my firstborn…my baby is officially starting school-school. I don’t know how to feel…but what I know for sure is…God’s already gone ahead of you @zoemabalane. Day 1 of 4382," she wrote on Instagram.
AKA
AKA's daughter, Kairo Forbes, was all smiles on her first day of Grade 1. "Big girl," he captioned a picture on Instagram.

Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp
Radio presenter Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp admitted that she was a little anxious about her daughter's first day at school. But the first-grader looked super excited to be going to big school.
"GRADE ONE !!!!!! My baby! MAMMA IS SO PROUD OF YOU !! Have the best year back everyone. To Our Future leaders;
We are all proud of YOU!!!!," she wrote on Instagram.
Anele Mdoda
Anele Mdoda's son Alakhe-ilizwe was "a little nervous" about his first day.
Bontle Modiselle
Bontle Modiselle's daughter started pre-school this year. She says she cried like a baby while dropping her off at school.
"Afrika was in my belly just yesterday. I don’t know where time is rushing off to, but it needs to slow down. Then there’s that precious smile to reassure mama and papa that she’ll be just fine. Look at your girl @priddy_ugly!," she wrote.
Jane Linley-Thomas
Jane's children, Cooper, Rocco, and Lula, are also ready to start the new school year.
Unathi Nkayi
'Idols SA' judge Unathi Nkayi had an emotional first day back at school. Her son is headed to Grade 12.
"He says ‘Mom this is my last first day of school. My first day of high school you were summiting Kilimanjaro and Daddy took me to school. I like how it’s all panned out.'," she wrote.
Her daughter was also ready for her first day.

Former Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene did not share a picture of her son's first day at pre-school but she shared a video that all moms can relate to.
