The countdown to Black Friday has begun! Here are safety tips to ensure you don't fall prey to scammers.
Black Friday takes place on Friday 24 November. Many stores have already started advertising massive sales of up to 80%.
However, the excitement can sometimes lead to people throwing caution to the wind when browsing sale items - especially online.
Each year, thousands of people fall victim to online scams. This is why it is wise to take extra caution before buying anything online or in person.

Below are some safety tips:
- Only buy products on reputable sites or trusted brands.
- Do not give away sensitive information such as your passwords, or credit card details with CVV number.
- Scammers might create fake websites that look legit. Before purchasing anything on those websites, do your research and download apps on Google Play or Apple App Store.
- Be careful when using your phone or laptop in public spaces where your details can be exposed. Protect your card information and do not save card information on devices.
- Use strong passwords on your online banking account.
- Be careful of using internet connections that are not secure and where people can easily hack into your account.
- Use your virtual account. If your bank offers a virtual account, use the card to make purchases online because the CVV number on a virtual card changes every hour.
