Senior Pawfessionals! Older animals deserve forever homes too
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Looking to adopt a pet? Don't forget about these senior pawfessionals!
The
Animal Anti Cruelty League (AACL) Durban is on a mission to make sure more senior animals get adopted into loving and caring homes.
Older animals are often last to get picked at shelters as many families prefer their "cuter" and younger counterparts, but the AACL is hoping to change that.
The non-profit organisation has teamed up with The Hardy Boys for an awesome new campaign that is sure to get animal lovers talking.
"People seem to think senior animals will be difficult to handle, stuck in their ways, and not as fun or cute. But none of that is true, in fact senior animals make some of the greatest pets; they are well trained, laid-back, appreciative, and require less supervision. It’s almost like they’re experienced in this whole being a pet thing!" the AACL said in a statement.

The NPO recently launched its 'Senior Pawfessionals' campaign on LinkedIn with several of their senior furry friends letting the public know why they are the right pets for the job.
"I mean when it comes to getting the job or going further in your career, experience and seniority is a good thing. So why isn’t it seen like that in the animal world?"
Some of the AACL's senior animals now have their own LinkedIn pages! Storm Chaseit - Senior Logistics Manager at AACL Durban - has eight and a half years of experience on the job.
Head of Accounting - Cabby the cat- gave Storm an excellent reference for exceeding her targets of fetching and carrying new toys, balls, and sticks.
Now that takes skill!
Senior Sleep Therapist Oliver Napper's skills include "sleeping, telling it like it is, finding the comfiest spot and making a human unable to move once I sit on them".
"Through our LinkedIn campaign we wanted to show off older cats and dogs as ‘overqualified pets’, and play off their ‘senior credentials’; showing off their years of experience in being the perfect pet!" the AACL said.
