Being pregnant doesn't mean that you have to stop exercising. In fact, there are many great benefits that come with exercising when you are pregnant. Exercise can help ease your labour pains and can even make some of your pregnancy challenges a little easier.

But of course, being pregnant means you have to be extra careful and can't just do any exercise.

We take a look at safe exercises pregnant women can do.

Walking

Taking a walk down the street or around your block is a great way to exercise. Walking helps keep you fit and won't even cost you a cent. The only thing you need to invest in is good shoes.

The good thing with walking is that you can do it at your own pace without feeling any pressure. Pregnant women are advised to walk for about 20 minutes per day.

Some of the benefits of walking are; it lowers the risk of Gestational Diabetes, keeps you fit, and it even tones up your hip muscles which will help you when it comes to delivery.

Yoga

Yoga helps relax your mind and can help ease labour and delivery. This is because yoga moves relax the hip muscles.

According to mindbodygreen.com, prenatal yoga helps improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth.

Swimming

Swimming is a great exercise for pregnant women.

It helps you feel lighter, reduces morning sickness, and of course keeps you cool.

But be careful; if you have never swum before, it might not be advisable to start when you are pregnant, especially if you are in the last trimester.
